Team England Training - February 2013

Hannah wrote about the JTE training session held in City Limits Romford during February 2013.  Read her story below:

Sunday started with a McDonald’s breakfast!

When we arrived at the bowl on Sunday we got our bowling balls out of the office and we sat down with Terry and Keith to talk about Vienna; what to expect at the bowl and in the tournament in general. Some of us have already been to the bowl to compete in the United World Games and were able to give others first hand knowledge of the place.

After our chat, following on from yesterday, we warmed up by shadow bowling and stretching. During practice Keith filmed each one of us bowling to show us the areas that we had been working on and the difference (and hopefully improvements!) that it had made. We used the feedback from the videos in two games of doubles in teams before lunch. Keira and Frankie and Brandon and Curtis won this mini tournament.

We then had lunch together in the bowl – chicken wraps are definitely the best option.

After lunch we again sat down to talk, this time we focussed on what EYC was going to be like, what to expect and how to cope with some of the pressure. Hadley and I talked to the others about past EYC’s and what we thought the others may need to know and help them in Vienna.

To finish the day we played two team games, the first was just straight forward, highest score wins – unfortunately the boys won this one. The second game we focussed on sparing and this game got quite interesting – if we missed a spare we got zero for the frame. To the girls defence we couldn’t really find a consistent line which meant a lot of splits. However this game did see some amazing performances ... George has 248, Keira had 88 and bringing up the rear was me (Hannah) on 79 – Looking great for EYC.
