Richard Howison-Johnstone NAYBC Coordinator for Clubmark made the long journey from Newbury to attend Barnsley YBC Clubmark presentation ceremony  on the 14th May.     On behalf of the BTBA and the NAYBC  Richard presented a bowling ball to her worship the Mayor of Barnsley, who then presented Ian Hall, Barnsley YBC  President with the ball, which at a later time, will be presented to a deserving member of Barnsley YBC.

Richard informed the audience, that both the British Tenpin Bowling Association and the National Association of Youth Bowling Clubs were one hundred percent behind and supportive of the Clubmark National program with Youth Tenpin Bowling Clubs.   Richard went on to say that Sport England and  KKP who administer Clubmark at a National level are recognising how well run our Youth Tenpin  Bowling Clubs are.   He said, this is a testimate to the energies of YBC officials, coaches and the support of parents working together for the benefit of young bowlers.   Richard stated that Youth Bowling Clubs are developing a reputation as being some of the best organised Sports Clubs in England where young people recieve the best possible Coaching within a safe environment where the BTBA ensures all coaches and officials are  licensed with enhanced CRB checks.

The success of Barnsley YBC gaining clubmark is an excellant example of partnership working between Stuart Rogers, South Yorkshire Sport Clubmark Coordinator, Ian hall and his team at Barnsley YBC, as well as, members of the NAYBC Clubmark Committee.  Barnsley YBC are the eight NAYBC YBC to gain the National Clubmark accreditation.   In adition, the YBC is the first Sports Club in Yorkshire to gain Clubmark together with being the first Bowling Club in Yorkshire and the first YBC in the North East Sport England Region.  A beacon to other YBC's to follow.

Barnsley YBC have said they will committ to helping other YBC's in Yorkshire and the North East of England who are interested in gaining Clubmark.  Ian has agreed to become a member of the Tenpin Bowling Clubmark  Committee.  Barnsley YBC,  at the National Championships on the 30th May, together with Wallasey and Norwich YBC's,  will  be awarded NAYBC Beacon YBC status.

Stuart Rogers, South Yorkshire Sport Development Officer said....

I work for South Yorkshire Sport, one of my roles is co-ordinating Clubmark.   Clubmark is a national kitemark for good quality junior sports  clubs. Barnsley is the First  sports  club  in South Yorkshire to gain  Clubmark through  South Yorkshire Sport.

From the outset, Barnsley Bowling club progressed through Clubmark at exceptional speed, with support from South Yorkshire Sport and the NAYBC Clubmark Steering Group. They have been a model of good practice setting up their own Clubmark steering committee which has helped them to become accredited so quickly.    South Yorkshire Sport would like to thanks all the parents, players and volunteers for making the club the way it is.

Now that South Yorkshire Sport has received the license, we are now hoping that other clubs in the county of Yorkshire can now get involved and receive the recognition they deserve. By supporting a network of clubmark clubs, parents and young people will know to expect the high standards of a  Clubmark club.
